Get Involved
There are many opportunities to share your time and energy to bring peace and comfort to others in the Oakville area. We are in need of Sunday drivers to bring seniors to church. Please consider volunteering. The more volunteers we have, the less time each volunteer needs to commit.

Power of One Ministry
“…called to be a caring people reaching out to our neighbours and all God’s people.”
This is the mandate of the Power of One Team at St. John’s. Since 2005, a group of dedicated volunteers has been striving to make a difference in the lives of those around the world who are less fortunate than we are. We draw our resources from donations from the congregation, fundraising activities, and a grant from the trustees of the church. Each year we support projects in each of three areas: local, national and international. This year at the local level, we are helping the work of the Kerr Street Ministries and Habitat for Humanity Halton. Nationally, our work for 2010 will be with a Canadian First Nations project; and on the international front, we continue to work with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank and the St. Lucia Learning Project.
We are also working to encourage donations to support the many projects of The United Church of Canada’s Mission and Service Fund, as well as to inform our congregation of current issues with speakers and written material. Environmental issues are important to us: we run a recycling program which helps various organizations and keeps recyclables out of the landfill. We also put our support behind many non–profit organizations by accommodating them with space for events.
Current Team Members are Sue Raynor (chair), Judy Wedeles, Shirley Weber Mayer, Suzanne Dalgliesh, Brenda Gibson, Wendy Merson, Bill Beairsto, and Frank Waywell.
“Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead
